Over $100,000 in Scholarships Given over the past 15 Years!

This scholarship is named in honor of one of the Chapter’s Founders who was a trailblazer in the area of education in the Henry County area.

High School Applicants​
​
  • Must be a graduating male high school senior attending any institution of higher learning who resides in and attends a high-school located in South Metropolitan Atlanta (including Henry, Fayette, Spalding, Rockdale, Newton, Butts, South Fulton, and the southern portion of Clayton counties).

  • Graduating high school seniors must provide a copy of the acceptance letter from the college/university of which they plan to enroll with the application.

College Applicants​
​
  • Must be a male college student who has completed at least one full academic year. Residence within the South Metropolitan Atlanta area is not a requirement for the matriculating college recipient.

The Charles H. Garvin HBCU Scholarship

This scholarship is named in honor of the fourth general president of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, incorporated, who was also a prominent physician, writer, and educator.​

High School Applicants​
​
  • Must be a graduating male high school senior attending any Historical Black College or University (HBCU) and who resides in and attends a high-school located in South Metropolitan Atlanta (including Henry, Fayette, Spalding, Rockdale, Newton, Butts, South Fulton, and the southern portion of Clayton counties).

  • Graduating high school seniors must provide a copy of the acceptance letter from the college/university of which they plan to enroll with the application.

College Applicants​
​
  • Must be a male African-American college student who has completed at least one full academic year at any HBCU. Residence within the South Metropolitan Atlanta area is not a requirement for the matriculating college recipient.

Application Components

Application

  • Complete the Rho Sigma Lambda Foundation Scholarship Program Application

  • Transcript must show a minimum 2.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent)

Essay

  • Submit one (1) essay from a list of topics provided by the Scholarship Committee.

  • All essays will be a minimum of 300 words and not exceed 350 words.

  • Essays must be typed utilizing Times New Roman styled font, size 12, double-spaced, and error free.

Recommendations

  • Submit two (2) signed letters of recommendation:

    • one from a school official such as an administrator, guidance counselor, department chair, or academic advisor

    • one from a person in the community

    • letters from relatives are strictly prohibited

  • Letters must include typed contact numbers, e-mail address, and full names.

Involvement

  • Provide a brief synopsis of your extracurricular, civic, and/or community service involvement that you would like to highlight.

Please make note of the following application expectations!

  • Application packages must be received on time without exception.

  • Applicants will be notified of the place and time for an interview upon receipt and review of their completed application packet.

  • Submissions that are wrinkled, stained, handwritten, or unprotected will be eliminated from the process.

  • Please return items bound in a report folder or 3-ring binder tabulated as follows:

    1. Completed application;

    2. Official transcript;

    3. College/University Acceptance Letter (High School Seniors Only)

    4. Essay

    5. Two Signed Letters of Recommendation

    6. Brief Synopsis of Extracurricular/ Civic/ Community Service Involvement
